How Fast Does A 2018 Mustang Go

Ecoboost mustang top speed

Hello all. Does anyone know what is the top speed for these ecoboost mustang? I have a 2018 Ecoboost Mustang non PP and I was only able to go 122mph. Is there some kind of factory restriction on these cars? The website says the top speed is around 156 mph. Thanks.

I've gone 140 and could have gone faster on a stage 1 Cobb tune

As a sidenote: if you have a stock non-PP Ecoboost - you don't want to go over 130 anyway, because you run the risk of your tires giving out.

It's not the tires. The OEM tires on my 2017 non-PP EcoBoost are Goodyear Eagle F1, 235/50R18 with a service description of 97W. The "W" denotes a speed rating of 168 MPH.

If you do the ford performance tune it'll go up to like 149 mph.

Yup, ecoboosts without the pp are limited to 121mph. With the pp it is 149 for 2015-17 and 155 for 2018-current, if I'm not mistaken

It's prolly cutting out on you around 115mph.

Edit: Yes there's a chip restricting you.

I topped out at 120 also, I have the Roush tune. Honestly prob shouldn't take it faster without PP anyways.

I had a 2016 base manual 6 speed ecoboost and I was able to hit ~140 before deciding to back off. I believe some of the newer ones may be limited? I'm not 100% sure.

I have a non-PP '18 and it currently tops out at 161. Cobb and PD have not been able to remove it as of yet. They did remove the factory 121 on the first tune. They are working on it though.

Something to know.

Years ago I was talking to a Ford engineer about top speed in my 2011 GT500 - he noted it was around 175 - but the car could go faster with an upgraded drive shaft and a tune.

The reason your car may be limited to a particular speed is the weakest component in the mix - often the drive shaft.

Why? Think about it, it's spinning at 3-4x the axel speed.

So if you search YouTube you can find video of people who upgraded the tune without changing the drive shaft.

It's not pretty...
